Exploring spirit, consciousness, and creativity.
The Five Bearings
The Five Bearings offer practical points of orientation for inner life and spiritual inquiry. They are not a creed or doctrine, nor must they be followed in a fixed sequence. Each Bearing may be explored individually or used in combination with others.
Illumination is the practice of seeing clearly. It invites us to what is hidden, unconscious, or misunderstood withing ourselves. Through honest observation and reflection, we begin to recognize patterns, assumptions, an influences shaping our inner life. Illumination does not demand immediate answers. It begins with the willingness to see.
Illumination
Mediation is the practice of holding tension without rushing toward resolution. It creates space between opposing ideas, emotions, or impulses so they can be understood rather than immediately judged. Mediation asks us to listen inwardly, remain present with complexity, and allow seemingly conflicting parts of ourselves to enter into dialogue. From that space, a deeper understanding can emerge.
Mediation
Love is the practice of meeting ourselves and others with openness, compassion, and care. It does not require agreement or the absence of boundaries. Love allows us to recognize dignity without denying complexity. It asks us to remain connected to the humanity within ourselves and others, especially when understanding is difficult.
Love
Authority is the practice of recognizing and exercising our capacity to choose. It asks us to take responsibility for our values, decisions, and boundaries rather than surrendering them unconsciously to others. Authority is not domination or control. It is the grounded ability to act from an examined inner center while respecting the agency of others.
Authority
Courage is the practice of moving forward despite uncertainty, fear, or discomfort. It does not require the absence of fear. Courage allows us to remain present to what we have seen, understood, loved, and chosen, and then to act with integrity. It gives movement to the other Bearings, carrying inner insight into lived experience.
